Clear Travel's Top suggestions for stops in South America.

South America is a vast continent with many contrasts and Wonders of the World. From cities to beaches, rainforest to glaciers, Salt Flats to Mountains, South America has got it all. This list is in no particular order and you may not have time to do it all in one trip, but promise yourself a return trip again and again.

1) Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires is a cool chic cosmopolitan city. Home of the tango, home of great steak restaurants, home of great nightlife, Buenos Aires is a city that does not sleep. Tourist sightseeing includes the neighbourhoods of Microcentre (City Centre), Recoleta, San Telmo, La Boca and Palermo.

Evita a major figure in Argentinian history, near the Microcentre you can view the pink Presidential palace, “Casa Rosada”, and the famous balcony where Evita made her passionate 1940’s speech. You can also visit the “Cementerio de la Rcoleta” located in one of plushest Buenos Aires neighbourhoods Recoleta, and follow the crowds and you will find Evita’s grave. There is also a small Evita museum in Buenos Aires dedicated to her life.

If you time your visit well a good recommendation for one of the most intense football experiences is to attend the “Superclassico”, a highly charged atmosphere between rival clubs Boca Juniors and River Plate and is regarded as one of the biggest games in the South American football calendar.

Also don’t forget to try the South American fast food speciality, empanadas and of course a visit to Buenos Aires would not be complete with a night of Tango, dining at one of the numerous steak restaurants and enjoying the nightlife in and around Palmero.

Finally further afield from Buenos Aires you could travel north to Tigre or catch the frequent ferry to the small town Colonia in Uruguay. Airlines flying to Buenos Aires include British Airways, Iberia, Lufthansa, and Air France.

The capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires is one of the world’s top cities.

2) Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador I would describe as paradise. Follow in the footsteps of Darwin in exploring this unchanged wilderness. A great way to see the islands of Galapagos is by boat. Island hopping allows you see so much of this stunning island Archipelago. If time allows take advantage of some of the world’s best dive sites.

Most visitors access the Galapagos Islands via direct flights from Ecuador’s major cities Quito and Guayaquil. Most cruises are co-ordinated to depart with the flight arrival and departure. Cruises around the islands vary in duration from 4 to 7 to 10 days. Types and boat sizes also vary, small boats can get closer to the islands but may not have the same facilities as the larger boats. Both your schedule and budget will define your best cruise option. Also don’t forget you can extend your stay in Galapagos after completing your cruise which will give you the opportunity to explore the larger islands, enjoy the scuba diving and snorkelling, relax on the beaches and do some more guided island hopping.

Enjoy admiring the tortoises, blue-footed boobies, iguanas, sea-lions and so much more. Galapagos a place you will never want to leave.

We hope you enjoyed reading the above, Machu Picchu and Rio de Janeiro to follow shortly.
